Shutter Island

So this past summer was the first time I ever heard of this book and the only reason I heard of it is because i saw the preview for the movie that was supposed to come out in december. I watched the trailer and knew immediately that i needed to see it. Not because it has leo dicaprio, but because its my kind of movie, so when i heard it was a book i needed to read it! However, i soon came to find that lots and lots of other people wanted to read it to (i take books out of my public library). There was a huge waiting list for it, but i didn't wanna wait that long, so I requested the book on CD, which only had 10 holds as opposed to the 150 the book had. (i didn't feel like buying it since i am trying to save money, so purchasing it was out of the question.) though I thought it would take days to get the CDs, it has taken weeks, and I FINALLY got them today!! so I am now off to listen to the CDs. I am super excited. i hope the narrator is good. haha. i'll let you know if it's any good, but for now you can watch the preview. watch leo in this cool looking new thriller coming out in MARCH, not this december. I guess they changed the release date because they wanted to hype the movie up more. ALSO a local radio host, Matty in the morning on Kiss 108 knows the author of the book, Dennis Lehane, and he was recently speaking with him on his show about  how this book is one of the few books he's read twice! haha, i guess thats a big dal for Matty. Well, thats all for now.

Liliana Rose: I am only two degrees of separation from this person!

Ok, so a bit of a shameless plug for someone my roommate knows. She went to Muhlenberg college and was in a sorority with my roommate's friend, who is now my friend... so that's how that works.

I didn't think Perez Hilton had the ability to be nice or intelligent ever, but here he is, proving me wrong! It doesn't happen very often, Perez, so enjoy it. Anywho, he posted this tidbit about my friend's friend, Liliana Rose, who wrote this little ditty, called "Walk Across the Ocean." It's got a cute, peppy beat to it and has great lyrics!

Here's the link: http://perezhilton.com/2009-11-09-listen-to-this-a-sweet-simple-song. She's also on Pandora, in case you'd like to hear more of her or more like her. Let's make her famous so I can feel cool about kinda knowing someone famous!

Zee Avi

a friend and i went to mercy lounge / cannery ballroom in nashville tuesday night. the headliner was a musician named zee avi. she was pretty good. her music is very chill and relaxing, with a lot of acoustic guitar. her voice is pretty unique, reminding me of a blend of norah jones and regina spektor. the guitar reminds me of jack johnson (which, if i am not mistaken, she is on his record label). ok, so her lyrics are kind of saddening, but that works for some people. i, personally, am more attracted to the sound of music opposed to lyrical content. regardless, you should check her out!

technological relationships

relationships for our generation

someone passed this interesting article along to me a few days ago. david brooks (op-ed columnist from the new york times) discusses how new technology, such as cellphones and text messaging, has changed relationships. it's clear relationships change over time, and that the evolution of technology has influenced them. brooks seems to believe that new technology affects relationships negatively, "threatening the sort of recurring and stable reciprocity that is the building block of trust." from personal experience, i can agree with this statement. but, are there any positive affects of technology on relationships?
